I took yesterday and today off; vacation days – and tried really hard to ignore work for a bit.
I was mostly successful…
I’ve been playing Blizzard’s re-release of “The Burning Crusade” and having a lot of fun. There’s a rather scary number of people who seem to think the old game is better than the new game, so there’s tons of players everywhere which is always fun. And I got into a HUGE guild which makes it even better.
Anyway, I walked over to the mall for a haircut and then pick up a burrito for lunch from “Jabanero’s” – which is always good. To get there I took the scenic route through the forest:
Then this evening I was perusing the new showings at the local theater and spotted “Top Gun” playing at the Dolby Experience theater over there… So I bought tickets assuming it was the new movie.
It was the old movie… Which was fine – I like the original movie, and the uber-theater makes it almost worth the $35 a person.
The “Dolby Experience” uses state of the art laser projection and, as you can see from the above photo, a really amazing audio setup… It manages to shake the seats when something explodes, but isn’t painfully loud to do so. At the same time even subtle background sounds are clear and positioned correctly.
If I have to take out a loan to see a movie, it’s the theater I want to sit in.
Back to the movie: I’d forgotten that the original 1986 “Top Gun” ends on a cliff hanger – which I suppose is the entry point for the new one.
I’m still really hopeful for the new version of the movie and that it’s not going to “subvert my expectations”… Which is code for ‘the studio spent a stupid amount of money on a failed movie because social justice’… But we shall see I suppose.
